Matt Schelp brings proven expertise as an experienced trial attorney and is a lawyer with Jensen, Bartlett and Schelp, LLC, an independent law firm associated with The Ashcroft Group LLC. As a federal prosecutor, he specialized in white-collar prosecution and held the distinction of being the Securities Fraud Coordinator and the Deputy Healthcare Fraud Coordinator for the Eastern District of Missouri. In those positions, Matt successfully prosecuted cases that involved public corruption, bank fraud, healthcare fraud and tax fraud. Missouri Lawyers Weekly named him one of its “Up and Coming Attorneys” in 2007.
As an Assistant United States Attorney, Matt was involved in the favorable resolution of many high-profile cases and personally tried many cases to verdict. Matt successfully led the investigation and litigation of matters that involved, among others, Engineered Support Systems, CKE-Hardee’s Corporation, Boeing Corporation and Edward Jones. In 2009, Matt successfully prosecuted the largest grain fraud case in Missouri history. Matt has litigated and resolved matters involving governmental agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Food and Drug Administration.
Prior to joining the United States Attorney’s Office, Matt worked as an associate at Thompson Coburn, LLP and Husch and Eppenberger, LLC. At these firms, he specialized in commercial litigation, healthcare litigation and worked on significant patent litigation and trial work for a St. Louis-based agribusiness client.
Matt served four years active duty in the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps and continues to serve in the Navy Reserve. Matt has successfully argued cases before United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit and the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
